چکیده
Although the idea of teaching integration before di erentiation is certainly not new, most, if not all students are introduced to di erentiation rst. This is certainly the case in our state where many students leave school believing that the de nite integral is an application of antidi erentiation. Primarily for this reason we introduce the de nite integral in our main rst year calculus subject before we mention di erentiation. In this talk I will discuss a number of issues related to this approach, including the historical development of the calculus, the bene ts or otherwise of teaching calculus at school and the success or otherwise of our approach.

متن کامل0 Note on the Curvature and Index of Almost Unitary Contraction Operator ∗
In the recent preprint [1] S. Parrott proves the equality between the Arveson's curvature and the Fredholm index of a " pure " contraction with finite defect numbers. In the present note one derives a similar formula in the " non-pure " case. The notions of d-contraction T = (T 1 , T 2 ,. .. , T d) and its curvature was introduced by W. Arveson in a series of papers (see [2], [3], and [4]). In ...
متن کاملIntegration formulas for the conditional transform involving the first variation
In this paper, we show that the conditional transform with respect to the Gaussian process involving the first variation can be expressed in terms of the conditional transform without the first variation. We then use this result to obtain various integration formulas involving the conditional $diamond$-product and the first variation.
